Hello Everyone Mute Here.

Its been a long old break for the blog. Allowing us all to just take a while to get on with our lives.

I have been busy, however after a conversation with rob of the genetic misprints yeasterday night I can now reveal that the long awaited CAST PARTY trilogy is ready for release.

Thier last release was last october and asfter the hiatus that they requested. The GM are back.

Rob and Darren have recorded a trilogy of thier most diverse material yet, making use of all of the characters they have created in the years they have been active.

All 3 albums will be released in the next few days. Expect ALOT of new music.

So far I have had the pleasure of listening to 'Sheffield FTW' and i agree with rob's own description of it as 'The most fun listen to date'. The other two albums 'Mulletproof' and 'Tom the Pimpin' Teddy Bear' will be released alongside.

I cannot wait until the label is back in business with regular new releases and the blog is yet again packed with all new FREE music.

I am so happy to share such a beautiful thing with such beautiful people.

Biography:
A Few months ago in the City Of Bristol in the UK, two gamers met at a nintendocore concert. They chatted throughout the night and exchanged contact details. 3 Days later they met up for a jamming session and 'Save Games Not Lives' was born.

Within a week they had recorded thier debut album in a bedroom studio, remixing and redubbing old Smashing Grandpa tracks. It has taken lots of mastering and unforseen circumstances but it is finally done.

CI7IZ3N850. 2008 - ???

Genre:
Hardclash/ Noise

Biography:
In 2007 a mysterious artist burst onto the underground scene in the UK. He would never perform without a mask and mysteriously sounded different everytime he played. His music was a mixture of hardclash vocals, punk lyrics and chiptune synths- dubbing his genre simply 'noise'.

In 2008 and after much controversy (Due to his disliking of recording) he relesed his debut album 'Una (Vasta) Historia De La Violencia', complete with 5 tracks that we're all called 'liar' in different languages. He released this on his own independant label 'whoreclash records'. Due to overwhelming demand (and the fact that he played for free and had no money) the cds sold out in minutes on his 'Alright Overnight' tour.

Since the release he claims that he has been waiting for a label with the correct 'ethics' and approach to music before he releases more, fortunately for us, he found U!D!R.

Believe me it is impossible to tell what we're going to get from him, when you listen to his debut there is such a vast range of everything, including songs reversed in other songs and whole copied sections. We want to ensure the mystery behind the figure that is 'CI7IZ3N580'

I'm sure that all of you have been waiting for news of the next steps for U!D!R. Well over the past couple of weeks I have been securing a few new artists for the label. Lets just say one is very different and one is similar, haha i'm giving nothing away!

Over the next few days I will be adding 2 new 'Band Bio' pages, these will provide details on the artists and thier type of music. There also should be uploads of both of these artists within a week.

In Other News, as our artists are such a tight community, I have decided that we should use every opportunity for you (the fans) to really get to know them, so I intend to ask the same 5 questions to each artist and post them.

Thats It....

The final GM release (for now) has been uploaded to the blog, and I would just like to take this time to thank the guys ar Genetic Misprints and Ragnarok Studios for thier input to the blog. Here are just a few statistics about thier achievement in the last year:

Genetic Misprints Have Produced:
8 Studio Albums
2 B-Sides Albums
3 EPs
2 Compilation Albums
3 Singles

The longest track is '18:01 Overture' at 18:01 and the shortest is 'Peter' at 5 seconds.
That makes up 19 releases in 10 months, just under two a month.
Producing in total 282 songs (wasting 11 hours,, 34 minutes and 24 seconds of shitty songs on a guitar)

To date the most popular album (in downloads) is Viva La Cheese which has reached a staggering 4359 downloads.
And the entire Genetic Misprints back catalogue has had over 15,000 downloads.

For a band who started out just by messing around with recording software in the chrismas break from college, its isn't half bad. They have allwed this blog to flourish and become what I always wanted; a potal for unsigned bands, who don't care about the money, to spread thier music, no matter what genre or style.

To all of you avid readers out there, don't worry because I have a few surprises up my sleeve and all will be revealed in due course.

Well Readers, Do You Want The Good News Or The Bad News First?

Ok, The Bad News.
Some of you may remember a few weeks ago I posted information about a new act signed to UP!DOWN!, D-Pad. He was due to have his debut EP released in a couple of weeks. UNFORTUNATELY due to close family bereavement, recording for the album has been subjected to a number of delays. He ensures me that a couple of track are finished, not quite mastered and that the rest of the EP will be finished in the forseeable future. I wish D-Pad all of the best in these upcoming months and I can't wait to hear his own brand of Nerdcore Hip-Hop.

And, The Good News (With A Little Bit Of Bad)

Some news about my main men of the moment 'Genetic Misprints'. As you may know it has been a while (a month for them) since we have heard much from the Genetic Misprints camp. This is due to the fact that the boys have been busy in the studio workinng on a few new releases to 'Tide The Fans Over' (More On That Later)

A Few days ago I recieved a list of upcoming releases from the duo. In order of release these are:

Variety pack EP: A follow-up to 'Vaule Pack' featuring more alternate versions of Genetic Misprints songs.

XV: Thier Latest Studio Album

Present Super Happy Funtime Sing-Along: A Collection Of Popular songs in instrumental form.

Theme Tune Single: The theme tune to the webseries, also includes clean version.

Date Rape and Selotape EP: A collection of old and new short skits and random songs.

The Best Of A Bad Bunch Volume 2: The second compilation of GM's greatest songs since Marmalederhosen.

I mentioned before 'Tide The Fans Over', this is because as of the end of september 2010, Genetic Misprints are taking a break, I have been ensured that this is definately not the end, but just time to persue projects outside of GM and outside of music. The reasons given by the band we're that: we need a break to be able to come back with lots of new ideas and its been exhausing but so much fun.

Rob Gale (GM Vocalist) stated that;

"Most bands only produce 1 album in every couple of years, we have produced 19 to date within the space of one year, it has been so much fun but the tank is nearly empty for now, ideas are harder to come by and we need more time to be able to produce an amazing comeback album. This is 100% not the end. GM will live forever. We have had more success than we could have ever dreamed of and thank the fans for that."

He has also confirmed that GM will continue to produce videos and episoeds of thier webseries during the break. They are still a band just taking a break from recording.

All of those releases to be upped very soon.

Just a quick note to say that Genetic Misprints have been in the studio for the past two weeks recording an album with UK musician 'Dr. Love'. The good Doctor will feature on this album as a guest musician and providing some vocals. I spoke to GM today about the sound of the new album and they said 'insanely insane', and after much deliberation settled on 'more random, but less random'. So I'm not sure what to expect. But knowing those guys it shall be comedy gold nonetheless.

information: innherited from tom, these demos were recorded in late 1992 by just me (Muteantowl) and Tom Thumb, Pre Smashing Grandpa. It was these demos that originally attracted the Brainz to join the group. Only 2 tapes ever existed of this, I didn't know that Tom got them transferred to disc until abput a week ago. Extremely rare, gives me shivers everytime. I can't even remeber the names of the tracks. The symbol was literally scribbles on the paper case the cd was in and so I thought it was fitting.

This album is hilarious, the album was made literally for pennies, 100% improvised on the spot. They said that they never went over anything twice. Some amazing bitas and some not so. Full of skits, songs and fun. Definately reccomend 'Cheese' the very first track they recorded, that came out beautifully. If you can look past the low production values you will find one of the funniest albums of all time. Sounds like the Left Rights with a hint of Plastic Love Tool with a massive helping of Tenacious D.

I have just got off of the phone with a brand new music act who want to use some of our tracks in thier upcoming album, in excange they agreed that the album will be uploaded here for all to download FREE! Rob mentioned the news in a previous post but I wanted to comfirm it is happening!!!

As of now all I know is that they want to us 'The Untitled' off 'Jelly Bean Custard...' but I offered them the use of any song, so all they have to do is ask.

THIS IS ALSO ANOTHER INVITATION TO ANY MUSICIANS/ REMIXERS WHO WOULD LIKE TO WORK WITH THE ENTIRE SMASHING GRANDPA DISCOGRAPHY- TO EMAIL ROB AT THESMELLOFCLOUDS@HOTMAIL.CO.UK. Obviously we will have to wait for this band to make thier choices but I am always looking for new takes on our existing catalogue.

Also even more excitingly last week at the Tom Thumb memorial service in Ottowa, Canada I met with Tom's widow Karen, who said that Tom Had a box full of items related to the band and that they may be of use in preservation of his memory or.... well i'm really not sure but I am excited to see as no-one collected Smashing Grandpa memorobelia and items like Tom.

The box is being dropped off by Karen at the weekend so I will be able to update you on some of the items I have recieved.

Hey all, Rob here (Not Muteantowl). I'm the guy that maintains the blog and has done all of the smashing grandpa artwork.

Riiiiiight, it might look a bit plain up there at the banner but I will sort that soon promise, I have been very very busy these past couple of months mainly starting up a new video production company, attending the Tom Thumb memorial service and working with new acts for the record.

I can announce now that within the next few weeks a couple of my friends from the UK will be finishing thier debut album, as of now is still untitled, and confusingly so is the act. I will keep you updated. I have currently only heard 3 songs off the album but it will contain 20+ tracks. There will also be a single up soon to promote the album. All I can say for certain is that this is completely diffferent from Smashing Grandpa.

information: our very final release, released by me and the Brainz on the 1 year anniversary of Tom Thumbs death. All of the song were going to be released on the upcoming album, that will never get made. But we put 3 of them on 'Something For Nothing' as they were songs that Tom had worked predominantly on, 46664 and Travel Sickness were the two songs that Tom was travelling on the train to record with us, and so these tracks do not feature Tom as he wrote both of the tracks, but never performed his section- leving just me and the Brainz to do the honours. The white version was our most popular album and was definately performed the most live. So there we go, our discography... enjoy.

information: the original version of Jelly Bean Custard Stampede, the title refers to an article Tom read about album titles which said 'whatever you do, don't call your album Jelly Bean Custard Stampede'. After our 4 year break and loosing 724 to his habit we got back in the studio and released this as the first single off of the upcoming 'Jelly Bean Custard Stampede' or 'Morpheus' as we referred to it. The cover depicts us three members left in the band, the tree symbols each one of us, the upside down peace symbol represents Tom as he had a tattoo on his arm of an eagle with the upside down peace symbol in his eye, the space invader represents the brainz as he always beat the rest of us at space invaders and that is what he chose to be represented as and I (Muteantowl) chose the graffiti drip because of my graphic design/ graffiti artist background. This cover is very different to all of our previous covers to show a new start, all the covers from hereon are much more simple.

This was much more popular with our fans as it was more easy to listen to. The songs still flow together but don't 'force' you to listen to every chapter. To make up for the delay in release we also recorded a bonus chapter for this release 'Technology Will Survive' which soon became one of my personal favorite songs. This song acted as a final end to the 'plot' of this album, allowing us to progress into other albums with a clean plate. We called this album preaching to the patient because we felt that we were rewarding those who waited and purchased this form of the album.

information: this is the original version of the infamous album, note only two songs (one is 45 minutes and contains ten chapters) Tom frequently reminded me before his death that this was released before Dream Theater's 'Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence' which featured a similar style and so we did not copy them. This was later re-released split into chapters which spawned a number of singles. We liked the idea of one tale and various styles of music flowing together much like most game music. If we were ever going to produce a concept album, this one would be the closest to that.

Biography:
In 1993 four accountants working at a firm in Baltimore USA met and formed Smashing Grandpa, they produced many albums and spread them locally using sales at live shows rather than a record label for dispatching. They remix songs from the nes and commodore 64 consoles, including some of their own.

In 2002 724 was thrown out of the band for his extreme drug use which ruined the band's clean image. They then continued to produce albums until 2008 when Tom Thumb was killed in a tragic train accident, Muteantowl and The Brainz released a memorial version of their last album in his memory and returned to mortality.

They never had a huge fan base usually playing local house parties and small venues with only the same fans attending each, although a small community the fan community collectively mourned Tom's death, and agreed with the decision to not continue the project.

To keep themselves anonymous and keep peoples attention focused on the music they wore masks each with a different graphic and color, to stop confusion between members. However because of this no-one apart from the band members ever knew the true identity of the members. Except 724 who announced on stage after his dismissal his actual name is Mike Williams. I know the identity of the other members but for Tom's sake as well as for my own personal reasons I am not at liberty to disclose them.
